Relaxation/Swedish Massage
This is your standard type of massage which incorporates broad, gliding strokes. Pressure tends to be light to medium. Swedish massage provides full-muscle relaxation, and it can be especially helpful if you are recovering from an injury.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a focused, therapeutic massage that targets the deepest layers of muscle, tendons and fascia. Using deliberate, slow strokes or friction across the grain of the muscle, the therapist addresses chronic tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or injuries.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is geared toward athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers. The particulars of the sports massage technique are specific to the athlete's sport of choice. Focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements, this type of massage involves the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity by correcting problems and imbalances. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise/training, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.
Myofascial Release
-John Barnes' Technique-
The John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach is considered to be the ultimate therapy that is safe, gentle and consistently effective in producing results that last. Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.
Myofascial Release treats the entire Myofascial mind/body complex eliminating the pressure of the restricted Myofascial system (the straightjacket) that causes the symptoms.
Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.
Pregnancy Massage
Also known as prenatal massage, pregnancy massage is customized to an expectant mother's needs but is most often used to promote relaxation. Since many pregnant women suffer from lower back pain and swollen ankles especially in the later months, massage is a relatively safe, drug-free way to provide relief. Please feel free to contact Katie with any questions or concerns.
